Kirtilal Doshi, former president of the GJEPC, dies at 101

Former Gem and Jewelry Export Promotion Council Chairman Kirtilal K. Doshi passed away on November 20 at the age of 101.

Doshi served as president of the GJEPC from 1970 to 1971 and was instrumental in establishing the Gemological Institute of India, the country’s first gemological institute, the GJEPC reported on its website. Doshi also played a key role in setting up industry bodies including Precious Stone Importers Association, Diamond Exporters Association Limited and Bharat Diamond Exchange.

During her lifetime, Doshi received several awards for her work in the jewelry industry. These include the GJEPC ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’, which was awarded to him in 2012. Doshi ran his family business Shrenuj & Co after joining his father’s company in 1942.

“He was also a pioneer in introducing modern technology and equipment to the diamond cutting and polishing sector, as well as promoting ethical and responsible business practices,” the GJEPC announced.

the GJEPC remembers Doshi as “a visionary leader of the Indian gem and jewelry industry” and reported that he passed away peacefully and is survived by two sons, a daughter and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
