“the concept of ESSX is to elevate and bring attention to the younger designer market,” explains co-founder Laura Baker. teen fashion. Baker, along with his partners Abe Pines and Yoel Zagelbaum, conceived the idea for the store during the pandemic. the partnership gave rise to a unique 7,000 square foot store concept that defied convention, located on the vibrant and eclectic streets of the Lower East Side on Essex’s namesake street. the store houses pieces such as Martina Rosa, Comme des Garçonsand based in New York Luarbrands that are often harder to find in traditional shopping experiences.
When it comes to young creatives and designers, Baker has always been interested in what their business would be like. He is passionate about training emerging designers and seeks to bridge the gap between creativity and equitable business strategies. “You did something really cool, but what’s the business after that?” he asks, questioning young, emerging designers. This is what led her to open her own showroom early in her career. “I’m pretty old,” she laughs, but with age comes the experience that allows ESSX NYC to be the space it is. “A lot of people ask how we have the caliber and list of brands that we have, and it’s really just about being veterans in the industry. I think that level of trust is the best business card we can have,” she reveals.

“We have different experiential spots throughout the store,” he shares. If you walk down Essex Street on the Lower East Side, chances are you’ll pass the store between Houston and Delancey Streets, and it might make your head spin. “We have an area called the Dome,” she explains, “it’s on Essex Street, you can see it through the window.”
the Dome has been a pop-up space within the store, housing several different collections since ESSX opened in July 2023. Baker and staff envision this area as a key component of the overall experience, creating intrigue and curiosity even before get in. the versatility of the space makes it a favorite area of the store for everyone involved. Currently, in preparation for New York Fashion Weekthe Dome is home to Namacheko’s spring-summer 2024 collection.
ESSX NYC is also distinguished by its private client suite, a curated haven with a full snack bar for the most notable clients: rappers, influencers, pop stars and athletes. This VIP space offers a more personalized and luxurious shopping experience.
