Marc Jacobs brings dolls to life at 40th anniversary RTW show

leave it to Mark Jacobs surpassing himself in an important milestone: the 40th anniversary of the brand that bears his name. the brand brought together celebrities and loyal Marc Jacobs fans on Friday night for the spring 2024 ready-to-wear anniversary show.

Assistants included Aoki Lee Simmons, Lori Harvey, Maddie Ziegler, Winnie Harlow, Sofia Coppola and more took their seats at the spacious Park Avenue Amory in New York City’s Upper East Side neighborhood. All that appeared at the beginning of the track was a huge table and chairs: a artwork from 2006 created by Robert Therrien (normally based at the AKG Art Museum in Buffalo).

Models soon emerged to soft piano music, styled with exaggerated makeup that included porcelain skin and enormous eyelashes, along with tightly combed hair, giving the illusion of being dolls compared to the enormous table behind them. Before the show, Marc Jacobs was posting throwback photos from his past collections and photoshoots in honor of the anniversary, giving fans the feeling that he may be revisiting some of his old work in this RTW collection. Instead, the brand kept things fresh and demonstrated why it has maintained its status as one of the most prolific designers in modern American history.

Marc Jacobs (the man) shared a funny (though troubling, if it were real) video of himself blowing out candles on a cake on January 29 from his SoHo offices. But the scene descended into chaos when the cake caught fire, with Jacobs grabbing the trademark white Marc Jacobs bag and running away from it. Hopefully there is a fire extinguisher nearby.

Back on the runway, the models strutted in front of the celebrity-packed seats wearing what could only be described as life-size doll clothes, some of which resembled those beloved Polly Pocket rubber outfits from the early 1990s. years (IYKYK). the heels were as thick and sky-high as a Bratz doll’s, and the most glamorous patterns looked similar to those of early Barbie.
